Elizabeth Furnace Campout a HUGE Success!!!

March 18, 2012

Troop 51 hosted its annual New Scout Campout at Elizabeth’s Furnace this weekend.  This is a great opportunity for our new scouts to get acclimated to the Troop, learn some valuable skills, and have a lot of fun.  This weekend, the scouts went on two different treks.  The older scouts did a 10+ mile hike to Signal Knob and had the opportunity to see some gorgeous scenery.  The new scouts completed their 5 mile hike and were so excited that they sang songs all the way down the mountain.  At camp the senior scouts helped our new scouts with some key skills – Isaac, Riley, and Austin treated boys to lessons about safe ax handling and help the our younger scouts to get their Toten Chips.  Our Star and Life scouts worked with the new scouts on their requirements, helping many of them get key Tenderfoot, 2nd Class, and 1st Class requirements signed off and many of our new members achieved the rank of Scout.  As always, Mr. Gilley treated us to some fabulous eats and fun was had by all.

Thank you Mr. Gilley for a great time and congrats to our newest Scouts!
