IWL Campout Goes off with a Bang!

IWL Campout Goes off with a Bang!

April 23, 2012

This weekend, 20 Troop 51 scouts faced the rages of the elements and participated in our April Campout at the Isaac Walton League shooting range.  We had a great day on Saturday and all of the scouts had the opportunity to shoot both 22 caliber rifles and compound bows.  Our bullet tally for Saturday was 1000 rounds and even Ryan’s 8 year old sister had the opportunity to get in on the action (She shout almost 100 rounds all by herself).  Saturday, just as the ranges were closing, the rain started to fall, and boy did it fall, as is tradition with most Troop 51 camping trips :).

Sunday started off well weather-wise, but right as the shotgun range was opening, it started to rain.  Did that deter us – NO!  We picked up our guns and moved right into shooting.  From 10:00 to 1:00 the scouts shot off round after round, and by the end of the event, we had 15 shotguns lined up on the range firing away.  When it was all said and done the scouts and adults expended 2000 shotgun rounds and killed approximately 500 clay pigeons (no real pigeons where harmed in the execution of this campout :).  Despite the weather, fun was had by all and I am pretty sure that we will be hosting more shooting campouts in the future.

Keep a close watch on the calendar – we are heading into a very busy spring/summer season with a lot of camping and events to come.

YIS.
